The SASA Program
The South Africa Study Abroad (SASA) program involves several initiatives that connect their classroom learning to real life. Since the program’s inception in January 2007, SASA alumni have partnered with US-based individuals and organizations to collaborate on long-term health, educational, and other projects in South Africa.
These projects have led to the donation of thousands of books to establish libraries at schools and crèches in Cape Town and Johannesburg, a Back-to-School campaign and the distribution of toys, diapers, clothes and other items for South African community partners. SASA alumni have logged thousands of volunteer and service hours in South Africa, collected supplies and monies, and built on the legacy of service of each preceding SASA class.
Donors can be assured that 100% of their contributions are used for a South African organization/group that has been vetted and with whom we have worked for many years to develop reciprocal relationships. Our goal always is sustainability and working hand-in-hand with our partners to assess their needs and the most effective use of our time, energy, and resources. We provide an account of hours logged, and all monies collected and spent for our projects.
We accept cash donations given directly to a current member of the SASA class, each of whom is required to provide a written record/account of all donations. Checks can be made payable to Elon University and mailed to:
